All trucks and trailers used in commerce must go through an Iowa DOT Commercial Vehicle Inspection. This includes trucks and trailers that have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 10,000 pounds.

Once a commercial vehicle is inspected, the inspection is valid for a period of 12 months from the date of that inspection.
